After a national search and a thorough, transparent, and inclusive hiring process, Vancouver’s City Manager has selected Jeffrey Mori as our community’s next Police Chief. 

Incoming Police Chief Jeffrey MoriMori has served as an Assistant Police Chief in Vancouver for the last three years. He brings 29 years of law enforcement experience to the role, including nine years as Undersheriff for Washington County, Oregon.

Mori will formally assume the role of chief at 5:00 p.m. on June 30. For more information, please see the city's press release and Police Chief Recruitment page.

Thank you to the community members who participated in the city’s three Police Chief Candidate Q&A Sessions. We greatly appreciate the thoughtful questions you submitted and the detailed feedback you provided.

Across the sessions, the five candidates were asked to address major themes from the recent police chief community survey and questions submitted by community members. Topics included:

  • Accountability and transparency
  • Reducing crime
  • Building and repairing community relationships
  • Recruiting and retaining a diverse police force
  • Navigating changes in state law
  • De-escalation and use of force
  • Homelessness and more

This, along with changes in local crime rates, state level reforms, and the national dialogue around policing, offers an opportunity to continue our support of effective, inclusive, and innovative police leadership as we welcome the city's next police chief.
