Need Complete Sidewalks & Bus Service

Many areas around the city do not have complete sidewalks, which makes it difficult for those of us who have to walk to/from the bus stop, store, home, work, etc. It is a safety hazard being forced to walk in the street where some people would rather hit pedestrians than to obey traffic laws when sidewalks are unavailable. The city, county, and state codes need to be updated to be pedestrian friendly and to make clear that it is no longer acceptable not to have sidewalks just because it wasn't required at the time the building/house was built and circumstances haven't required sidewalks to be put in since then.

To add insult to injury, it is atrocious that C-Tran is allowed to significantly reduce, if not eliminate needed service and the city is okay with that. For example, residents in the Fourth Plain Village and Rose Village neighborhoods have to walk a significant distance to the nearest bus stop unless they live along one of the major roads. Both neighborhoods do not have complete sidewalks. Because of the inadequate bus service that C-Tran provides, it takes me 40+ minutes just to go to downtown Vancouver when it should only take 20 minutes. I know that others who live in the area have to use C-Van more frequently then before because C-Tran has reduced service. In these neighborhoods and others who have experienced a reduction in bus service, I know people who have moved to a neighborhood with better bus service (or would like to but can't afford to) or have purchased a vehicle that they cannot afford and legally drive; all this to compensate for the lack of decent bus service. If I could afford to do so, I would have moved to an apartment that had better bus service many years ago.
