112th Ave Noise and Safety
Good afternoon,
A few years ago I wrote an email to the Vancouver Neighborhoods office describing the increase in auto racing and traffic noise on 112th Ave. At the time, the response received was that the city was not able to provide safety protection for our neighborhood. It is an established neighborhood and a safety wall was not an option, however 18th Street did receive a sound barrier wall. The city's fence line is about 12 feet from the street and 18 feet from our community of houses. The traffic noise reaches 90 decibels just outside our door and 70 decibels in our closet. Aside from the intense noise pollution, the constant auto racing is a serious danger to the structures where our families are living. In six months, we have had two serious accidents on 112th behind our house. Should one of these cars had crashed on the west side of 112th, it would have ended up in one of our houses.
Once again, we are seeking support and solutions to keep residents safe. We understand 112th is a major artery of traffic flow, however the flow and noise sounds much more like a freeway now. Our specific community is Morrow Terrace HOA. Our HOA President stated he would bring our concerns forward as well but I am writing my own plea for the families living directly along the road. I recently attached pictures of auto accidents so the city could see just how close they are to our homes. Please let us know how we can move forward and take action. The response from the Neighborhoods Coordinator has really just been to plant trees for defense. She also suggested I post something here. Our community is open to suggestions!
