Open for Play!

We’re happy to let you know that the new playground at Homestead Neighborhood Park is now open and ready for play! We’d like to thank all the neighbors who helped with the design and were patient during construction. To celebrate, Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department will host a small community event this spring, when the weather is warmer. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the new playground!

Some areas of grass near the playground were affected by construction. These areas will stay covered with straw until spring. This is because it’s too cold to plant new grass right now. We appreciate your patience as we finish the last details.

New playground includes swings and separate play structures for ages 2-5 and 5-12.

New play equipment features a whimsical cloud theme with colors that make you feel like you're exploring the Northwest sky.

Playground Design

Homestead Neighborhood Park (1911 SE 159th Pl.) is getting a new playground! This 6.2-acre park serves the Cascade Highlands, Cascade Southeast and Fairway/164th Ave. neighborhoods in east Vancouver.

The approved design includes:

  • Play areas for ages 2-5 and 5-12 with a mix of artificial turf and engineered wood fiber
  • Swings
  • Shadow play flower art piece
  • New nature play log scramble area
  • New and replaced furnishings including bike rack, benches and trash can

Project Overview

Installed in 1991, the play equipment at Homestead Neighborhood Park is in poor condition. It does not meet current ADA standards and will become a safety concern if it is not replaced. In 2024, Vancouver Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services will replace the play equipment to better serve the surrounding neighborhoods.

The budget for this project is focused on replacing the play equipment in the existing playground location and adding a few additional amenities. The Cascade Highlands Neighborhood Association has also secured funding for two new benches, which will be placed along the walking path during playground construction.
