While Hazel Dell is currently outside of City limits, the area has become not only littered with homeless trash but also feels unsafe at times with mentally-ill homeless gentleman swinging a golf club around drivers parked at local traffic light while yelling and drug transactions taking place behind office buildings. As in other areas of Vancouver, homeless beg at intersections and can be seen walking on the freeway which presents unsafe conditions for them and residents. While home values are increasing I'm concerned if the problem grows it will cause them to drop for those of us (middle class residents) in the area for whom this is our hope to partially retire and stay in our homes as we age. I wholeheartedly support mental health support for homeless and drug treatment programs to get them back on their feet and independent once again.
