192nd Avenue Frequently Asked Questions
How will you choose what upgrades to make? Why is this project necessary?
192nd Avenue is a busy area that many people use daily. On this section of the road, there are no center turn lanes, traffic medians, bike lanes or continuous sidewalks. This makes it challenging for many to travel on the road safely. The City will work with the community to understand which problems are most important to address and make the road safer for all.
See The City's Transportation System Plan and Complete Streets Policy to learn more about safer roads.
What is the City’s Transportation System Plan?
The Transportation System Plan (TSP) is a guide for how The City can make traveling around Vancouver safer and easier for all. It has details for how to make streets, sidewalks, bike paths, bus routes, trails and ADA-accessible areas better for all.
What is a Complete Street?
What a Complete Street looks like can change based on things like how the area is used, how much traffic there is, what the community needs and the surrounding neighborhoods. Overall, Complete Streets:
- Reduce the chance of crashes and injuries
- Create places for people to live healthier lives
- Support growth that is good for the environment
- And more!
Your input will help shape what a Complete Street looks like on 192nd Avenue. Read the City’s full Complete Streets Policy to understand how it will guide transportation plans and improvements.
How is this project being funded?
The budget for design comes from a Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) grant. This grant is funded by local programs through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Funds for construction haven't been secured yet. The City will share more information on how the project will be paid for when it's available.
When is construction expected to begin? How long will construction last?
Construction is anticipated to start as early as 2028. The City will shared more information, as we secure funding for construction.
What traffic impacts should we expect?
The City will do everything possible to limit disturbing neighbors and minimize impacts to businesses while the road is under construction. The project team is evaluating how different design options might affect the area residents, visitors and businesses. This report of the findings will be shared at the first community open house in summer 2025. Once a design is chosen, the project team will share more specifics for how traffic might be impacted.
I own a business or property in the project area. Will this project affect my business or property?
Creating roads and sidewalks that are safe and easy to use helps everyone. To reduce traffic on the road, the project team is exploring ways to improve the road so people can move easier and safer to get to their destinations. The project team will work with nearby businesses to make sure property and access impacts are minimal.
I live along the project area. Will this project affect how I live, how I access my driveway or where I park?
Complete Streets aim to improve how all people live. In addition to improving the road, this project is creating better paths for driving, walking, biking and rolling so everyone has a safe place to travel. This project is not currently looking to remove parking on 192nd Avenue. The project team will work with nearby residents to minimize impacts during construction and seek to balance safety and access for all community members.
What are current traffic volumes? How is that expected to change in the future?
The average daily traffic on 192nd is 14,000 cars. This number is expected to increase to 22,000 cars by 2045.
