Important Dates
Fall Tree Work at Shaffer Park
Some important tree care activities are underway at Raymond E. Shaffer Park. The work will be conducted by certified arborists from Arborscape Tree Care, in collaboration with Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, and Urban Forestry.
What’s Happening
- Canopy Raising was completed in early October to improve sight lines and visibility for safer park use.
- Fruit Tree Trimming is scheduled Nov. 11-12 to enhance tree health and make fruit harvesting easier in the future.
- Habitat Snagging will also happen Nov. 11-12, converting 9 dead or dying trees into habitat snags that provide nesting areas for local wildlife. Larger cut portions of these trees will remain in the park and be repurposed to use in the new forest play area. Smaller branches will be chipped and used on the park's existing trails or for the off-leash dog area opening in 2026.
The park will remain open during this tree work. Please avoid marked work areas and use caution around equipment. Trees being snagged were assessed as hazardous by a certified arborist and are marked with white flagging tape.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to maintain healthy trees and wildlife habitat at Shaffer Park.
